Kevin Jean turns dance on its head in a performance that transcends gravity.
In 2008, a foot injury led Kevin to reflect on the role of a non-virtuous body in dance. “I wanted to question my relationship to this norm, handicap, obstacle: my relationship to the body in movement, in a performative society. As I literally experience an inversion of perspective, I become sensitive to a new point of view and discover other possibilities, a new dance. If the perception of gravity changes, is the change less painful, less dramatic?”
Hanging upside down, Kevin evokes falling and the strangeness of a foreign body in unusual postures, that conquers and overcomes, with uneasy but fluid movements.
